One of the highlights of this trip was…
The landing at the airport!! Just magical.. You were literally landing between mountains and rivers.
I usually suggest more than one hotel in every place I go but in this case there is only ONE I am going to give you guys.
AZUR LODGE. Waking up in bed with a knock-out view of New Zealand wilderness only two miles west of Queenstown, the luxury boutique hotel offers nine contemporary private villas command stunning, uninterrupted vistas of Lake Wakatipu.
I fell in love with this place. Not only is the most exclusive hotel I have ever been but also the staff is the most welcoming people you will ever meet. I will give you one hint only, you can have breakfast until anytime you want!! Try the pancakes for sure and the eggs benedict!! Yumm!! Unfortunately they don’t serve dinner but you can always order in and have the staff prepare your table in your villa and pick up everything afterwards.
WHAT TO DO:
-WINE TASTING. New Zealand’s South Island is famous for the Pinot Noir, and the Sauvignon Blanc. You need to go to as many wineries as possible and you should definitely start from Amsfield and Mount Difficulty!
-RAFTING. Definitely one of the best things to do to keep up the adrenaline and have super fun!
-SKY DIVING. Book it after 12pm and if you are going to jump then definitely jump from 15000ft.
-Paragliding there are two places for that don’t go to the one in Queenstown too much crowded and not a great fall.
-Visit MILFORD SOUND with Air Milford, book the FLY/CRUISE/FLY. On your way there take the small airplane and on the way back fly with the Helicopter so you can have a stopover on the glacier Mountains! Totally WORTH IT!
-Drive to Glenorchy. The ride is amazing and the views are incredible. If you are a Lord of the Rings fan then I am sure you will recognise some of the places. (I have no clue but my boyfriend loved it)
RECOMMENDED LENGTH OF STAY:
4 NIGHTS/ 5 DAYS to see Queenstown and around if you want to do more parts of the Island then definitely 2 weeks.
WHERE TO EAT:
- Botswana Restaurant
- Jervais Steak House
- Vknow (better order in your hotel)
- Fergburger (ask the hotel to pick up the burgers because the line is too long)
WHEN TO GO: FEBRUARY
We went in March and I have to admit that it was pretty cold especially at night. In the South Island it doesn’t really get warm so even if in daytime gets super hot at night it gets cold so prepare your suitcase with warm clothes as well.
- Try the Fergburger Cheeseburger. It is damn good!
- Book everything in advance especially if you go on sunny days that all the activities and things to do are always fully booked!
- Prepare to get bitten by Sandflies; my worst enemy. Carry with you an insect repellent and cover yourself as much as possible when doing all the activities in nature! I’m not joking people they are a nightmare.
